Intergovernmental Negotiations on Development Cooperation between Rwanda and Germany sucessfully concluded
From the 8th to the 9th of November 2011, intergovernmental negotiations were held between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Rwanda in Bonn (Germany). They resulted in a commitment from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany of 60 million EUR for development cooperation for a period of 3 years.
Upon request of the Government of Rwanda in the context of the division of labour for increased aid effectiveness, in future, development cooperation between the two countries will be focussed on the focal sectors of “Sustainable Economic Development“ and “Decentralisation“. The focal area of “Sustainable Economic Development” comprises support to the development of the private sector and technical and vocational education and training (TVET). Furthermore, Germany will continue to provide general budget support to Rwanda and reiterated its support to Rwanda’s development through continued commitment to the implementation of the EDPRS.
Germany commended the high development orientation and ownership of the Rwandan Government which is resulting in very successful economic growth path as well as the efforts towards ensuring that this growth remains inclusive.
The Rwandan delegation also had the opportunity to hold fruitful talks with members of the German Federal Parliament – from the Committee of Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Africa Business Association and the German Association of Cities and Towns.
