To gain a personal impression of the regional context and its problems the German Ambassadors to Kigali and to Kinshasa visited Eastern Congo together. In Goma Ambassador Thomas Terstegen (DR Congo) and Ambassador Peter Woeste (Rwanda) consulted extensively with representatives of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO). “You only understand the dimension of the problem when you have been on the ground yourself . It’s the only way to gain an impression”, Ambassador Woeste from Kigali commented.

On a field trip, they visited peace projects financed by Germany in cooperation with the UN mission and contributing to its task. On one of these project sites the local community honoured the German involvement by handing over a very special gift: two chicken – definitively looking less happy than the two envoys.
