Grant of 32,5 million Euros

Germany invests 32,5 million Euros in the rehabilitation and privatization of the hydropower stations Ruzizi I und Ruzizi II  at the border between Rwanda, Burundi and the DR Congo.

On December 16th, 2016 German Ambassador Dr. Peter Woeste and the Executive Sectretary of the Communauté économique des pays des grands lacs (CEPGL), Mr. Herman Tuyaga,  exchanged letters finalizing the German commitment. “This will contribute to strengthening the regional cooperation and stability” Ambassador Woeste commended the decision of the German Government to release this huge grant.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Head of Development Cooperation of the German Embassy, Stefan Sckell, and the Head of the German government owned Bank for Reconstruction (KfW), Mr. Markus Bär, and representatives from Rwanda’s energy sector.
