Mrs. Mandy Hupfer, Development Desk Officer at the German Embassy met with Mrs. Assumpta Ingabire, new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC). Together they chair and co-chair the Sector Working Group on Decentralization and Governance and thus coordinate the cooperation between the Rwandan Government and Development Partners. Mandy Hupfer thanked MINALOC for the trustworthy cooperation of the past and is looking forward to its successful continuation with the new Permanent Secretary. The PS informed about the status of the ongoing elaboration of the sector strategy, which is in part based on an evaluation of the last 15 years of decentralization policy in Rwanda. Both documents will be presented at the next SWG meeting.

Germany supports Rwanda in the area of decentralization and good governance with about 31,5 Mio. EUR (30 bln. RWF) in 2014 – 2017.

Relations between Rwanda and Germany are manifold and reach far beyond discussions at the sectoral level. In October MINALOC will welcome a delegation from the German Federal State of Rhineland Palatinate in Rwanda, led by the Minister of Interior and Sports of Rhineland Palatinate, Mr. Roger Lewentz.
